about

Bruno Gussoni: shakuhachi

Bruno Gussoni (born in 1951) is a flute player who works in the field of free improvisation/instant compositions. He plays several flutes (C flute, alto flute, bass flute, piccolo, shinobue, ryūteki, shakuhachi), used to create a unique and personal language producing experimental flute sounds. He is not interested in the use of the flutes as “academic instruments”, he has given up on traditional techniques in favour of extended techniques like un-pitched breaths, multiple sounds, harmonics, overtones, whispers, microtones, keys percussion, and other sounds, all combined with breath, silence, soundscapes… exploring the acoustic possibility of the flutes, in the sound space and in relation with other improvisers.
He played/plays with: Don Cherry, Frank Lowe, Wadada Leo Smith, Jeanne Lee, Peter Kowald, Michel Doneda, Tetsu Saitoh, Edoardo Ricci, Matthias Schubert, Ove Volquartz, Joshua Weitzel, Ulrike Lentz, Anja Kreysing, Jane Rigler, Henry Koek, Christophe Meulien, André Darius, Eugenio Sanna, Iao Aea, Claudio Ferrari, Marcello Magliocchi, Angelo Contini, Guy-Frank Pellerin, Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg, Matthias Boss, Lawrence Casserley, Daniel Thompson, Adrian Northover, Willy Van Buggenhout, Tom Jackson, Martin Mayes, Maresuke Okamoto, Bernadette Zeillinger, Diego Mune, Jean Demey, Vanessa Pettendorfer, Angelina Ertel, Eric Arn, Andreas Eichorn, Elisabeth Kelvin, Herbert Lacina, Edward Reardon, Stephan Brodsky, Phil Gibbs, Benedict Taylor, Joao Pedro Viegas, Yoram Rosilio, J.J.Duerinckx, Dan Roth, Anton Mobin, Roberto Del Piano, Nicola Guazzaloca and many others.
He collaborated with the videomakers Jutta Pryor, Ash Benness, Alexandra Bouge.
He partecipated as flute player on compositions of Cezary Ostrowski, and King Imagine.
Actually he collaborates with Vanessa Pettendorfer in the organ/shakuhachi project, and with King Imagine, Markus Breuss, Dararat Chemnasiri and others.
